Cubic Zirconia- Take Me High
One of the problems with posting a music video for Cubic Zirconia is that they really are incomparable live. I got to catch them a couple of weeks ago when they opened for SBTRKT, and last night they played at The Music Hall of Williamsburg for the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. To drive the point home, they have in no time become one of my favorite act to see live; their energy is almost unmatched, and their fusion of R&B and electronic music, using varied influences from house to footwork to dubstep, make them different and more dynamic than so many bands out there, all of which make me quite glad that both the band and me are based in Brooklyn.
Their full length debut album, Follow Your Heart, came out digitally earlier this fall and the LP comes out November 29th.
It’s a Great Week to be a Riot Grrrl (or feminist in general) in NYC!!!
There are so many opportunites to get your Riot Grrrl on in New York and Brooklyn this week. You don’t want to miss it!!!
Who Took The Bomp? (Le Tigre On Tour) screens at the MoMA tonight (April 4th at 7pm). Q&A with Kathleen Hanna and Joanna Fateman to follow!!!

MEN featuring JD Samson of Le Tigre plays the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday (4/7)! Put on your dancing shoes! Or rather, I’m putting on my “jump up and down, scream, and dance wildly” shoes. They’re very similar, but ideally have just a little more arch support. Last time they were in New York, they sold out the Bowery Ballroom. Get tickets now!

See you there!!!
“White Table” by Delta Spirit
Meet me darlin’, won’t you?
I’ve been waiting for you
At my lonesome white table
Ready, willing, and able
Torn in two
Beaten and scarred
I’ll give you my love but not my heart
Tattered and worn
Battered and bruised
I’ll give you my love but it won’t be true
Someday darlin’ maybe
You could be my baby
Until then I’ll be waitin’
At my lonesome white table
Torn in two
Beaten and scarred
I’ll give you my love but not my heart
Tattered and worn
Battered and bruised
I’ll give you my love but it won’t be true
Just returned from seeing Delta Spirit at The Music Hall of Williamsburg. Not only are these young men fantastic musicians, they are excellent performers. Matthew Vasquez, their lead singer/guitarist, is also the stuff lead singers are supposed to be made of, and sometimes it’s fun to swoon like you’re 16 and you’ve never seen a plaid shirt look that good on anyone. But don’t let my crush take away attention from his multi- talented and versatile bandmates; they’re a true ensemble piece. The evening ended with a cover of The Isely Brother’s Shout as Vasquez abandoned the stage to lead a crowd wide dance party on the floor.
One part rock, and a whole lot of soul, do not pass up an opportunity to see this band live. Check out upcoming tourdates here. Heads up Charleston, SC folks, Delta Spirit rolls into town July 6th for a show at The Pour House. They will electrify this venue.
