B.O.B and Asher Roth- Fuck The Money (produced by Kanye).
I’ve been digging on this song for a while (despite being broke). But it wasn’t until tonight, listening to my gal Joni Mitchell, that I realized they are sampling River. This almost completely redeems Roth for subjecting us all to I Love College. Seriously though, was that song supposed to be ironic? I really hope it was, but living in Williamsburg, I assume almost everyone and everything is trying to be ironic. As in, “That band sucks.” Me: “Maybe they’re being ironic?” Regardless, Fuck The Money is HOT. It’s catchy without sacrificing content or style and possesses that winning combination of attitude and heart. It’s also well-produced (assuming we are allowed to compliment Kanye again?).
For dessert, here are the lyrics to some of my favorite poetry that happens to be set to music.
River by the illustrious Joni Mitchell.
It’s coming on Christmas
They’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
But it don’t snow here
It stays pretty green
I’m going to make a lot of money
Then I’m going to quit this crazy scene
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby cry
He tried hard to help me
You know, he put me at ease
And he loved me so naughty
Made me weak in the knees
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I’m so hard to handle
I’m selfish and I’m sad
Now I’ve gone and lost the best baby
That I ever had
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I wish I had a river so long
I would teach my feet to fly
Oh I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
I made my baby say goodbye
It’s coming on Christmas
They’re cutting down trees
They’re putting up reindeer
And singing songs of joy and peace
I wish I had a river
I could skate away on
