Bad Reputation from Joan Jett

This morning, er afternoon, at brunch, my friend and I were talking about female musicians.  I am working on an article about Salt-N-Peppa, whose music was dedicated to female empowerement and was a big part of the soundtack of my youth.  Female pop stars today could learn a lot from Salt, Peppa, and Spinderalla (Katy Perry, I am talking to you).  After putting Bad Reputation on a mixtape I made for a friend for his birthday, I found myself wishing I’d listened to more Joan Jett in high school (high school being the epi-center of slut shaming and all).  I listened to a lot of Joni Mitchell and Ani Difranco (still do), but I think I could have benefited from Jett’s completely unapologetic outlook and general fiereceness.  So here’s a weekend anthem for my readers, many of whom I follow on tumblr and inspire the hell out of me.

I’ve actually been meaning to post this for a while because it’s a classic video that’s also very smart, pairing the lyrics and performance scenes with elements of a silent film.  I’d go so far as to say it’s brilliant actually.  And it ROCKS.

Best played loud while dancing crazy on top of whatever is nearest, bed, couch, etc.
